So May has been a huge milestone – I got my site up and running! I thought I had done sufficient research and was prepared, but even with watching you tube videos until my eyes cross, as well as many informational videos from various food blogger sites, I have struggled. I’ve definitely learned some lessons in frustration and perserverance over the past month. I don’t know about you, but I could spend a whole month just learning how to operate Photoshop efficiently. I swear that program is not user friendly at all. I’ve also learned more HTML code and computer lingo than I ever imagined. I’ve gotten most of the kinks worked out, but this site is still a work in progress.
While I was trying to add metadata to my site from Pinterest, I inadvertently changed some code in the Genesis main frame, which is supposedly a huge no no. I panicked when I saw my header > logo disappear from my site. To make matters worse, even though I could still see my site, less the logo, I found out I was a blank white page on the web. I spent hours upon hours one weekend trying to restore the damage I did. I lost a lot of time in the kitchen, but I was able to get the site restored and I can now move forward and focus on what I really love – baking!!
Developing this site has not only pushed me out of my comfort zone when it comes to computer management, but also I’m trying to challenge myself with baking as well. I’m not the kind of person that will be making fancy cakes with beautiful fondant patterns. I think presentation is important, but I believe in simple and great tasting. I hope to become a better baker as time goes on. I’ve already experienced a few kitchen blunders this month. My banana bread turned out too dark and my banana nut muffins were not moist as the recipe had indicated. I didn’t have any luck with the banana recipes this month, but I will find that perfect recipe and once I do, I will put it in a post.
On a personal note, I wanted to share some pictures of my family. Michael is my husband. Jeremy is my son and Nicole is my daughter. Nicole turned fourteen at the end of May. Our newest addition to the family (we got her at Christmas) is Bailey, our seven month old Lhasa Apso. She’s a fourteen pound fluffy puppy with a spunky little personality. My son will be going off to college in a few more months and my daughter will be starting her first year of high school. For Memorial Day, we spent the weekend at Cape Cod watching Jeremy play in his last soccer tournament with his premier team. We’ve actually spent the last four years on the Cape during Memorial Day and usually the weather has been in the low fifties and breezy. This year was no exception.
