With just five simple ingredients, this homemade cookies and cream ice cream recipe is simple to make and taste delicious.
Why make homemade ice cream?
The flavor is so much better than store bought and there are less preservatives and chemicals with super long names that are really hard to pronounce. This recipe consists of just five ingredients: heavy whipping cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, and Oreo cookies.
I spent a couple of weeks trialing “no churn” ice cream recipes or recipes that didn’t require an ice cream maker. I convinced myself I didn’t need an ice cream maker. Did I really need to spend the money and in my small house, where was I going to store another appliance?
I tried recipes for ice cream with sweetened condensed milk, and sorry folks, I just didn’t like them. Although it is possible to make ice cream without an ice cream maker, I I finally broke down and bought one, and I’m so glad I did. For the cost, it is well worth it. I chose one that doesn’t even require adding ice or rock salt.
This is how easy it is. In large bowl, combine the cream, milk, sugar and vanilla extract together. Once you have started the ice cream maker, simply pour the ingredients into the ice cream maker and let it do its magic.
While the machine is busy doing its thing, I end up multi-tasking in the kitchen. I’ll chop vegetables for dinner or make my lunch for the following day. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the churning process. At this time, the ice cream will be more like soft serve.
For this recipe, I let the ice cream churn for about 15 minutes and then added the chopped Oreo cookies for the last five minutes.
Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and place in freezer for at least 6 hours to harden.
